About

During the Second World War Kent had two Mental Deficiency Institutions - West View Institution, Tenterden and Leybourne Grange Colony, West Malling. The war had an impact on the ambitious building programme at Leybourne Grange Colony, the staffing of the Institutions, the patient intake and the families of both patients and staff. This talk will include preparations for war, the impact of air raids, rationing, evacuation and both staff and the families of patients being called up and being part of the war effort.
