Maidstone Borough Council runs a number of arts competitions throughout the year. Please see below for currently active competitions and follow the individual links for more details.
Young Artists' Award 2026 (The MMF Art Prize)
This Award is run by Maidstone Museum and is open to artists aged 25 and under, from across Kent and Sussex, to help encourage the talent and skill of our young artists.
There are two age categories: 15 to 25 years, and 14 years and under.
The winners of each category will receive £150 and the runners-up will receive £100, so give it a go!
2026 theme: ‘Place’ (consider the relationship between us and our environment, exploring landscapes, urban spaces, and the impact of location on identity and culture).
You are welcome to submit up to three artworks (£10 per submission) for consideration in the competition. This theme can be interpreted in any way you wish in 2D or 3D works. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any digital or photographic works.

Maidstone Vehicle Livery Competition
Enter our competition to inspire the artwork for one of our recycling trucks!
Create bold, imaginative artwork that inspires Maidstone to recycle more and protect our environment. Whether it’s food waste, garden waste, or general recycling, your design could help spread the message in a fun and eye-catching way.
The Prize: Your winning design featured on a real Maidstone waste collection vehicle; option to have your name included on the vehicle; £200 in health & wellbeing or environmental vouchers.

Mote Park Art Competition 2026
This annual event will be back in 2026 with a new theme to inspire more beautiful artworks based on Mote Park.
The shortlisted entries from the 2025 competition can currently be seen in the Mote Park Learning Space until Saturday 1st November, 10.30am - 3.30pm daily.
