Of Light & Time: Candle Art Exhibition

Of Light and Time is a community art project, supported by Maidstone Borough Council, based in Maidstone that brings together children and older people through simple conversations and carefully crafted candle pieces.

 

Children were invited to share their thoughts about the future—what they hope for, imagine, or value—while older residents offered reflections, memories, or words they would like to pass on. These contributions were gathered in a relaxed and accessible way, allowing people from different backgrounds to take part without needing any prior experience in the arts.

These shared words were then translated into a collection of hand-crafted candles, each designed to reflect a particular idea or feeling through its form and colour.

 

The project also reflects an ongoing creative practice that explores storytelling through various forms of artwork, creates a gentle space for imagination, expresses memories through words of blessing, and brings together experiences through shared light.

Kage's work explores meanings in life through candle art. With an interest in different forms of connection, her work can offer a sense of calm and reflection.
