Come down to Creative Maidstone for an introduction to linocut relief printmaking. Our lead artist Christie, a very experienced printer, will guide you step by step through the printing process., from starting sketches to carving practices, inking up, and using our printing press.

Lino or linoleum printing (yes, like the stuff you put on your floor) is a relief printmaking technique where you carve into a block using V or U shaped carving tools, leaving behind raised/uncarved areas that make up your design. The linoleum block is then inked with a brayer and pressed onto paper to make your design.

WHAT TO EXPECT
* Draw then refine your own design
* Learn to safely use traditional carving tools
* Explore colour mixing, inking up, and registration
* Use a printing press and other methods of getting a nice crisp print

WHAT YOU GET
As well as the new printmaking skills that you can continue beyond the session, you will also get to take home all of your wonderful single colour lino prints made during the session, as well as your A6 printing block.

LEVEL
This workshop is ideal for ages 17+ and is suitable for any ability. No previous experience is necessary, just enthusiasm! We will be using fine motor skills such as holding a pencil, a pen, and using carving tools.
