Summer of Music

A great passion for music is entrenched in the cultural fabric of Maidstone and in 2018 we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the famous Leeds Castle Classical Concerts.

Maidstone has a long history of attracting top artists either at the height of their fame or up and comings stars. Adele was given her first main stage slot at Radio One’s Big Weekend in 2008 in Mote Park. And who would have believed that Madonna would top the bill that same weekend.

Our Summer of Music has more music events than ever before, from international pop and rock artists to jazz, soul, blues, classical and world famous DJ sets.

The summer (okay spring!) kicked off with the Maidstone Fringe Festival, a fantastic event that saw wide mixture of music from indie, rock, pop-punk to acoustic, blues, ska, funk, soul, dance and hip-hop filling the town’s venues.

Proms in the park

Proms in the Park takes place in the beautiful Whatman Park at the end of May. Family entertainment during the afternoon is rounded off with a rousing performance from Maidstone Wind Symphony. A great time to take a picnic.

Unleash your inner rocker at the end of June as Ramblin’ Man Fair, this annual music festival  celebrating classic and contemporary rock, progressive rock, blues and country, returns to Mote Park. The festival features a number of internationally renowned acts and UK performance exclusives  Build up a real appetite rocking out before visiting one of the many gourmet food and beer stalls, alongside a number of specialist music stages and luxury camping.

At the height of the summer of music, Leeds Castle once against hosts the fabulous classical concert with an epic firework finale. The first concert took place in 1978 so this year a special finale will include greatest hits from the 70s era along with classical favourites.

The Kent Event Centre has big name artists performing this summer. The hugely popular international girl group, Little Mix, will be taking to the stage in July attracting audiences from around the world. This will be followed in August by The Grandslam Tour 2018 with Simple Minds, one the UK’s most successful bands with performances from The Pretenders and KT Tunstall. At the end of August Craig David and special guest Rita Ora will be heading there.
