An unseen screening of 1930's - 1960's Maidstone from the Kent archives.

About

This special programme will take you on an archive film tour of Maidstone and district from the 1930s to the 1960s.

The films, all drawn from the collection of Screen Archive South East, feature the parade of Maidstone Industries led by the Mayor of Maidstone Councillor G. Tyrhitt Drake, auctioneers at work at the livestock market, the River Medway and its course through Aylesford Bridge, Allington Lock and East Farleigh, a visit to Harold Potter, the miller at Chegworth Watermill, the Kent Show of 1951 in colour at Mote Park, the work of the Maidstone and District Motor Services and street scenes and landmarks from the 1960s. 

Many of these films have never been seen before by the public. 

Includes refreshments, booking is advisable.

Road Directions

The Centre is on the A229, on the 2nd roundabout between junction 6 of the M20 and Maidstone town centre. 

Free designated parking for Blue Badge holders at the front of the building. 27 Pay and Display spaces by the riverside near the libary on James Whatman Way. Nearest long stay car park is at the Maidstone East Railway Station and Fremlin Walk. There is also plenty of cycle parking at the front of the building. 

Public Transport Directions

Bus routes 101, 150 and 155 stop at the side of the building. 

Nearest train station is Maidstone East.
