Join award-winning Kent author Lucy Strange for an adventure deep underground – to a world where a mythical monster comes to life, where children work in the darkness, and disaster is just about to strike . . . Discover the real-life inspiration behind this breathtaking tale!

All children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. This means that adults will need to buy tickets too. We cannot take responsibility for unsupervised children.

This event is part of Maidstone LitFest 2023. This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

This event is being held at The Archbishop's Palace, which has the following accessibility information:

- This is a historic building, so please contact us in advance for any accessibility queries. There are ramps available, as well as a small lift. If you are travelling by car, please note the suggested car parks for use to make your journey smoother. We will have volunteers on hand to assist you.

Maidstone LitFest – Ticket Terms and conditions (in addition to the Maidstone Borough Council - Beyonk Terms and Conditions)

Can I get a refund on my tickets?

We do not offer refunds unless a show is cancelled. Tickets can be transferred to another person in your place. Please note on all bookings for children’s events that you are aware of the suitable age range and parental responsibilities.

What age can children attend unaccompanied?
Children of 13 years or older can attend our events unaccompanied. However, we do not take responsibility of that young person. Children under 13 years need to be accompanied by an adult.

Accessibility needs:

At the time of booking, please do email us with any accessibility needs you may have. We have tried to make our venues as accessible as possible, but one venue is a historic building, so we need to know in advance how to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. Our staff and volunteers will aim to help you as much as possible on the day. Unfortunately, we do not have a hearing loop system in place for our events this year. Email:

Children with additional needs:
Please email us with any needs your child may have and how we can accommodate them at the events to ensure they can enjoy their visit:
