Maidstone is a great place to come with a group of people, mainly because there is a lot to see and do but also there is a wide range of different activities and places to visit, which suits a lot of different tastes, this can be from historic buildings and gardens to tailor made tours or group visits to explore the vineyards in the area.

New for 2018

Kentish Lady Boat Trips to Allington Castle

Trips along the River Medway on the Kentish Lady have been popular for a number of years but 2018 sees a brand new trip.  This is happening on Tuesdays only, from Easter until October, when the Kentish Lady departs from the mooring on the River Medway to the beautiful new mooring at Allington Castle.  Here visitors will disembark and will be met by castle staff who will show you around the exterior of this historic medieval castle and glorious gardens.  Visitors will then be able to see the courtyards and the visit the Great Hall.  This castle is the private home of Sir Robert and Lady Worcester and for those people who have peeped through the trees and wondered what this castle is like, this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy this amazing moated castle.  The trip finishes by re-embarking on the Kentish Lady for tea and cake.  For more information and the only way to book this trip is via the Kentish Lady.

Kentish Lady River Cruises

The Kentish Lady is this year offering Monday,  Wednesday,  Thursday and Friday departures from the mooring in Maidstone on the 3 hour trips with either a picnic or fish and chip lunch.  To book see the Kentish Lady.

Hush Heath Vineyard and Winery

In recent years English wine has become an important part of the landscape in Kent, with the French Champagne houses buy up tracts of land to plant vines.  However, Hush Heath produce some of the most unique and elegant wines in England.  Tours of the vineyard and winery are a rare delight with the opportunity to taste some exquisite English Sparkling wine, alongside some fantastic new wines, some made with apples and these are all very interesting.  To book a tour see Hush Heath Winery.

Leeds Castle

For group visitor to enjoy  exclusivity to Leeds Castle group visits are normally first thing in the morning before the main gates open this allows you time to be in front of the crowds.  There are a variety of tours available and include not only the original upstairs tour but also the downstairs tour.  All are very interesting and well worth the day out.  Once you have been on the group tour in the castle exploring the grounds, have been lost in the maze but discovered a grotto, been amazed by the birds of prey and taken the boat trips or been out on a punt there is a day out for everyone here.

Maidstone Museum

Maidstone Museum has not only its wonderful new Ancient Lives Gallery but also some amazing behind the scenes tours with the Collections Manager.  As with many museums only about 2% of the collections are on show, so having a look behind the scenes is both interesting and exciting.  If your group has specific interests then collections can be made available tailored to their interests.  This can be anything from historic clothing, to dinosaurs and fossils, paintings, spooky items, tales from the South Pacific or more information about the lives of Ancient Egyptians and Greeks.  To book see the Maidstone Museum pages.

Biddenden Vineyard

This is the oldest wine producing vineyards in Kent and whilst it is possible to try their excellent wines and discover their story they also produce some of the most excellent fruit juices in Kent.  For a group interested in local produce and wine this is an excellent visit.

Hammond Micro Car Museum

This is a private collection of wonderful micro cars which the family who own them are happy to share with groups of visitors.   All of these little cars have and amazing history and many have been on great adventures.  The stories of the cars are as interesting and the development of the cars themselves.
