Shemomedjamo - Maidstone's Multi-cultural Food Festival

1st June 2018

Shemomedjamo, Maidstone’s own multicultural celebration of food, drink and music, returns to Mote Park

25th – 27th August 2018

Attracting 10,000 people to dine around the world with the idyllic, leafy setting of Mote Park as its backdrop in 2017, Maidstone’s very own multicultural celebration of food, music and cultural cohesion returns for its sophomore year. Back at Mote Park, this marriage of cultures from far and wide will offer a veritable smörgåsbord of delicious cooked food, drink and produce alongside a stellar programme of music, workshops and light entertainment the likes of which Kent has never seen.

From Kentish produce to Georgian delicacies and South East Asian cuisine, Shemomedjamo boasts a plethora of food options – it's the globetrotting affair you can't afford to miss! Taking you from the Far East to West Africa, the streets of Rome to the barrios of Santiago, festival goers can tour the world via their tastebuds throughout the weekend.

The creative and intelligent will offer something a little different, a melting pot that will bring people from all walks of life and from all backgrounds, to come together and enjoy food and music around the collective table. 2017’s musical line-up boasted internationally famed acts from Syria, Canada, India, Gambia and the Congo, and this year maintains the eclecticism and high standards set last year. Gasper Nali's Malawian one-man band, Algerian Tuareg desert rock quintet Imarhan, world-renowned Ivorian DJ and producer Mr Raoul K, quirky Japanese innovator ICHI, the melancholic Afrobeat-influenced pop of Aadae, Japanese dream freak-out tribe Yama Warashi and the enchanting rock stylings of French songstress Estelle May will all feature, with more to be announced soon.

Shemomedjamo is produced by the Event Umbrella on behalf of Maidstone Borough Council taking place throughout the summer months. Set in Mote Park, the event is free to enter for the entire duration.
