About

Fremlin Walk is an open air shopping centre is found in the heart of Maidstone and is considered the shopping and retail centre of the region.

The development brings together around 50 of the most popular and stylish shops including House of Fraser, Oasis, Zara, HMV, Quiz, Superdry, Mankind, Waterstones and Fatface, as well as restaurants and an 800 space car park.

Pavement cafes include Pret-a-Manger, Patisserie Valerie and Costa Coffee, and different stalls and speciality outlets visit throughout the season. These can be Italian or French markets, or chocolate specialists at Easter time. At Christmas, the air is scented with pine and spice from the specialist stalls and a range of hand-crafted gifts can also be found.

A variety of events take place within the shopping centre each year. During the Maidstone Arts Festival and Maidstone Fringe Festival weekends, Fremlin Walk plays host to some live music for all to enjoy.

Fremlin Walk has an interesting history having previously been the site of the Fremlin Brewery, the brew house of which was demolished in 1976. But a number of features from its past remain, creating a distinct atmosphere and sense of its past, making Fremlin Walk a unique shopping location.

The Elephant, which was synonymous with the Fremlin beer brand, remains in a prominent position on top of the shopping centre, while some of the arches from the original perimeter walls provide entrances from Earl Street and St Faith's Street. Check out our Breweries and Distilleries page to find out about the Fremlin Gremlins.

If you are organising a group and would like to arrive by coach, parking for the coach can be arranged within the commercial loading bay area, with access from St Faith’s Street.

This makes the shopping centre very accessible and very easy for your group to find their way back. It is also immediately opposite Maidstone Museum for those wishing to see this attraction as part of their visit.
