Accommodation Star Ratings
All the accommodation featured on the this website has been quality assessed and star rated, so that you can make your choice confidently knowing that each establishment complies with the quality standards set by the national tourist board, VisitBritain and/or the AA, or is part of a nationally recognised brand, such as Hilton or Holiday Inn.
Some establishments may have recently applied to be rated and are therefore awaiting assessment. These establishements are shown as 'Awaiting Grading'.
Establishments are graded using a system of 1-5 stars. The star ratings reflect the overall quality of the accommodation and the experience. Establishments are quality checked by independent assessors who work to ensure that the standards you find are what you would expect.
As a general guide, the following descriptions apply for ratings given to all types of accommodation.
1 Star - simple, practical, no frills
2 Stars - well presented and well run
3 Stars - good level of quality and comfort
4 Stars - excellent standard throughout
5 Stars - exceptional standard with a degree of luxury
In addition, a Gold or Silver Award may be awarded which recognises those establishments assessed by the tourist board with exceptional quality in all areas, particularly in service and hospitality.
AA Red Star are awarded to hotels and inns rated under the AA system with exceptional quality of accommodation and customer service. AA Yellow Stars are awarded to the best guest accommodation within the 3-5 star rating.
Visit Britain's new award recognises those hotels and B&Bs that offer their guests a quality and choice of breakfast, service and hospitality that exceeds what would be expected at their star rating. It will help visitors find those places where the owners, managers, chefs and staff have gone the extra mile to ensure the breakfast will exceed expectations.
