Countryside Walks around Maidstone
The North Downs Way cuts through the villages of Hollingbourne and Lenham, just north of Maidstone. Most of the 156 mile journey, which starts in Surrey and ends in Dover, is along the highest points of the North Downs ridge. It is not necessary to walk the whole trip but a map can be purchased from the Visitor Information Centre to ensure you can find connecting footpaths in this beautiful area, so you can enjoy a circular walk on marked bridleways and footpaths.
A Landranger map can open up the whole area to a keen walker taking in pretty countryside, villages, farms, towns, shops, pubs and beautiful landscapes. For easier walking along marked trails Riverside Walks such as the Millennium River Park in Maidstone, where you just keep the river on your right or left takes the worry out of getting lost. Bluebell Hill and Teston Country Park both offer a variety of walks. Fabulous walks around villages, along pretty footpaths and lanes can be found right across the Maidstone area. Most footpaths in Kent are well marked and it is an opportunity to enjoy your own exploration and adventures.
