In and around the Maidstone area are some wonderful attractions which are easy to travel to if you are staying in Maidstone.  Leeds Castle is a popular choice but exploring some of the lesser known attractions can be very interesting and there some mysterious, exciting, beautiful and genuinely curious places to visit.

Within the town itself All Saints Church has ancient links to Washington and is the final resting place for the founder of the Arts Council John Maynard Keynes.  Indeed all of the churches in town and frequently in the surrounding countryside have interesting stories and histories to tell, ranging from slave trading to notable stained glass windows. 

A guided tour with a Blue Badge guide reveals an astonishing industrial history which built up along the river.  The town, because of its river crossing points, was a genuine place in which a market could develop and people bought and sold goods and produce.

Looking up at some of the buildings reveals some extraordinary architectural features and the towns history of brewing, paper production and trading starts to unfold.

Excellent evening entertainment is another feature Maidstone has to offer which makes it a popular place for groups to stay.  Some hotels are close to the river and these make for excellent evening or early morning walks.

Spending a morning or afternoon shopping is a very popular pastime. Those who prefer not to shop, visit Maidstone Museum with all its treasures from Japan, Egypt and indeed special collections from around the globe.
